Why Red Hampshire Matters

160px-charles_bass1Red Hampshire matters because if the Republican Party wants to become the majority party again in New Hampshire, then we must have an honest discussion about how we got here and, more importantly, how we move forward.  We need forums – like Red Hampshire – that allow committed Republicans of all ideological stripes to share their thoughts on how we become the party of ideas again, and how we re-build the winning electoral coalition that made our party strong for generations.

As part of this important discussion we must admit our own mistakes.  In the vacuum created by our own failures to offer real solutions to some of the challenges facing our state and our nation, we have allowed our party to be defined and caricatured by our critics.  Too many in our party forgot that our first obligation to the citizens who elected us was to govern.

Even more important than diagnosing how we got here, is finding the prescription for a Republican resurgence in New Hampshire – and indeed – across the country.

The Republican Party should be the Party of ideas – ideas grounded in our belief and commitment to freedom, liberty and opportunity.  We should be the Party of entrepreneurship, hard work, and common-sense pragmatic solutions to the challenges facing America today. Ours should be the Party that leads rather than reacts to climate change and environmental protection, alternative energy development, education reform, making healthcare more competitive and affordable, and putting unemployed Americans back to work.  Perhaps most importantly, if we are to rebuild a winning electoral coalition, than we should be the Party that listens to and feels the pulses of America, not just those of our closest friends and allies.

I want to thank those who have started this site.  You, and the men and women who participate in the debates and discussion here, are part of the solution.  With your help we can return the GOP to our rightful place as the Party that has earned the trust, admiration and faith of the people of New Hampshire.
