Sununu Will Not Run in 2010

According to The Union Leader,

Ex-U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu tells The Associated Press he will not run next year for the Senate seat being vacated by fellow New Hampshire Republican Judd Gregg.

Sununu — who was defeated last year by Jeanne Shaheen — says he’s busy working with several technology firms, a number of nonprofit organizations and as a member of the panel overseeing the government’s bailout of the financial sector.

SUNUNU STATEMENT:

Senator John E. Sununu announced today that he will not run for office in the 2010 election cycle.

“Representing New Hampshire in the United States Senate is a great honor, but effective public service is much more than just a desire to hold office.  It’s essential that the timing fit both personally and professionally.

This year I’ve made commitments to serve several technology firms, begun working with a number of non-profit policy groups, and continue to serve on the Congressional Oversight Panel for the TARP.

Equally important, campaigns require great sacrifice from family.  After running in seven primary and general elections over twelve years, my family still means more to me than anything else.  I very much intend to keep it that way.”

Sununu currently serves on the boards of Time Warner Cable, Boston Scientific, and ConvergEx Group.  He is a member of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Treasury’s Troubled Asset Relief Program.  Earlier this month, Sununu led an international delegation monitoring the Lebanese Parliamentary elections.  He also serves on the Middle East Working Group for the U.S. Institute of Peace.

John Sununu’s decision is bad for NH, however good for him and his family, I wish him well. Now it’s back to square one, open the flood gates and let’s come up with someone that can win.

Wow! Big news… I agree with Richard, the right candidate should be able to win…but who is ready?

Politico.com says that Judas Gregg is trying to get Kelly Ayotte to run, she is a good candidate but she would not be the GOP’s best foot forward, at this time maybe Steve Merrill or Ovide Lamontagne but my problem is they are all lawyers and we have an excess of ambulance chasers in the Senate as it is now and lawyers are by design and training devious and tend to be bought easily, just take a look at Gregg, he is the poster child for not electing attorney’s to Congress.
