Speaker Pelosi Must Go

Nancy Pelosi should resign as Speaker of the House and Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes should demand she do so.

While she is elected by her constituents in San Fransisco, as Speaker of the House she is accountable to all of us. When she said “We were not…and I repeat, were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used” she was lying.

Over the past two weeks it has become clear that in fact she was told, as early as 2002 by many reports. Yesterday she accused the CIA of intentionally misleading Congress about these techniques. The CIA’s response? “We are not in the business of misleading Congress.”

Speaker Pelosi has to go.

Speaker Pelosi holds one the most important and powerful positions in the country- she is third in line to the Presidency. She has paved her path to power by attacking the previous administration and Republican members of Congress for their support of using enhanced interrogation techniques in the war on terror.

She manipulated one of the most divisive and emotional issues of our time as a tool to move her her own self-serving political ambitions forward.

Pelosi has shown a total disregard for the position she holds and complete disrespect for the people she serves.

Regardless of position or party, every elected representative of the people is obligated to serve with integrity and honor. That means telling the truth. Speaker Pelosi has failed to do so. She should resign as Speaker of the House.

And as Representatives of the people of New Hampshire, Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes should demand she do so.
