Respectfully, Elizabeth Edwards just stop
May 6, 2009Forgive that I am writing about a national story and not even really about politics, but I just had to get this off my chest. Elizabeth Edwards has a new book out where she discusses in detail her husband’s affair. She should change the title to “Too Much Information: The story I should have kept contained to my family, but for some reason thought you would pay to know.”
This post is not about Elizabeth Edwards. From all accounts she is a very intelligent, courageous cancer survivor and great mother. (I could go on and on about my disgust of John long before his affair…)
This post is about the point behind the book. If she thinks (or has been told) that the world is waiting for this book… well we moved on. Some people write books to improve their public image, but she is not the one needing damage control. Others write books for the money, but they are doing well. If she wanted to write it down as therapy, feel free, and maybe even make John read a little of it every day. But I don’t need to know if you are still in love with him (she told Oprah “That is a complicated question”), I don’t want to know how many times he lied, I don’t care if you think the baby is John’s. Really.
The world never revolved around the Edwards family and it certainly isn’t now. That is a point that I think they never understood.
I know my opinion doesn’t matter, but I ask again: why are you doing this and don’t you have better things to do with your time?
Please, just stop.
