Oh, So THAT’S Where Paul Hodes Is…

August 22, 2009Jennifer Horn

I am a big believer in accountability in government. To me, the first step in that is members of the House of Representatives making themselves available to their constituents – especially during August recess- an entire month set aside for just that purpose.

All month Paul Hodes has been avoiding his constituents. Not a single town hall planned. It has become clear to me however, that it may be because Paul Hodes doesn’t understand who his constituents really are.

While it is no surprise that Mr. Hodes looks fondly upon unions in general (they were after all one of the largest blocks of contributors to his campaign) I would have thought that co-sponsoring “card check” legislation would be appreciation enough.

Not so. The only public event that Mr. Hodes has scheduled this month, to my knowledge, is an energy expo. Guess where it is being held? The union hall in Concord.

Here are the details, as provided by the team at Meet The New Press (find them at GraniteGrok.com):

MONDAY AUGUST 24th at 10:00 AM
————————————————–
Rep. Paul Hodes (D-2)
Clean Energy Expo
IBEW Hall
48 Airport Road
Concord, NH
NH AFL-CIO

This event may charge admission.

I think it is interesting – and perhaps revealing – that Mr. Hodes will be appearing at a union event this month, but will not host a public town hall.
