Kimball on Unemployment Rate

Jack Kimball, potential candidate for Governor, issued the following statement regarding today’s unemployment numbers

STATEMENT FROM JACK KIMBALL,
EXPLORATORY CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR,
ON UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

In exploring a run for governor, I have been concerned for quite some time about the unemployment rate and the struggle that Granite Staters are facing finding jobs. The report today from the Department of Labor confirms my concerns. I am deeply troubled that for the first time since 1983 the national unemployment rate is over 10%. To make matters worse, the report found that we lost 190 thousand jobs in the month of October alone.

While New Hampshire is faring better than some other states, our numbers have continued to creep upward and currently stand at an unacceptable rate. Though much focus has been on Washington, it is unfortunate that Governor Lynch is once again using a do-nothing approach to address the unemployment issue here in New Hampshire.

It is clear that the big government philosophy adopted by Governor Lynch and the Democrats in Washington has not only failed to stimulate the economy but has failed to put New Hampshire citizens back to work.

What I believe we need now is to ease the tax burden, particularly on small businesses, which are the backbone of New Hampshire’s economy. By reducing the tax burden, capital can be freed up so the New Hampshire business market can grow and flourish. This will allow businesses the opportunity to start hiring again. Additionally, what we need now are leaders who are committed to taking immediate action to roll up their sleeves and cut government excess and find innovative approaches to stimulate the business climate in New Hampshire.

Right on the money! It was small business that made New Hampshire into a powerhouse economy. Let the market forces do it again.
