Hodes Trails Ayotte in 8th Consecutive Poll

February 5, 2010Matt Suermann

On the heels of a UNH poll that shows President Obama’s popularity in NH below 50%, and even lower amongst undeclared voters, a poll of 600 likely voters conducted by the liberal blog Daily Kos finds today.  Also, for one of the first polls, it provides a head to head match up in the Republican Primary:

Primary Election Matchup GOV General Election Matchup
Ayotte 36% Lynch 59%
Lamontagne 27 Kimball 13
Binnie 4

SEN General Election Matchups
Ayotte 46 Hodes 46%
Hodes 39 Lamontagne 36

Hodes 45
Binnie 35

This is obviously a huge blow to Team Hodes.  He is not only losing badly to Kelly Ayotte, he isn’t blowing away the two lesser known candidates.  The Primary results should also have some good news for both Teams Ayotte and Ovide which shows them both in good position in the Primary.

Hotline on Call added the following nuggets about the poll and their insights as well:

Ayotte holds a 47%-35% lead over Hodes among independent candidates and a big 55%-28% lead in the 1st CD. In Hodes’ 2nd CD, he has a 50%-37% head start.

But Ayotte has a ways to go, and her opponents have made clear they won’t be pushovers. Ayotte’s 9-point lead over Lamontagne, who has sought to portray himself as the conservative alternative to the ex-AG, shows Lamontagne will play a role even if his early fundraising has been disappointing.

Oh, and for those keeping track at home: this is the 8th consecutive poll that has Paul Hodes losing to a Republican.

Here is my headline ” Ayotte Dropping like a rock, Ovide has the BIG MO”

In only a 1 months Ayotte lead against Ovide Lamontange has dropped from 32 points to only 9. Bill Binnies campaign seems to be stagnant even after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on direct mailers and televisions ads.

Maybe it’s time for another Demcorat to come forward. Hodes may be like Dodds and Reid; Dems who can’t win, but whose seats could possible be held by another Dem. Good for Dems that they have (tognue in cheek here) a strong bench. Kathy Sullivan has her pen sharpened and is ready. Then there’s Raybo if we could get him back from the streets of Amsterdam and the Hague. And last–and certainly least–the prince of Vileness Peter HO HO HO Burling.

Bill Binnie’s biggest mistake…running that commercial with his father’s heavy Scottish accent. With all his money, he should have tested that with sample groups. It might have been okay for an ad later on for a short time, but not out of the gate. If it didn’t turn people off (and I think it did), it certainly didn’t thrill them. I was actually looking to support someone; I’ll never support Ayotte and Ovide’s more than a tad too socially conservative for me, but mighty Binnie has one strike against him so far. And you can never recast a bad first impression. Sad but true.

I agree completely with Bob. This poll is amazing news for Ovide. He is on a roll.

The only thing we learned is Rep. Valliancourt doesnt like Scottish people.

Wannabe Senator Ovide is on a roll alright all he needs is and endorsement from the southern carpetbagger neo-dixiecrat Strom Demint and David Duke and and this will put this convenient conservative over the top with the extreme right wing. Go Kelly Go.

Steve, I’m curious as to your reasoning on the Binnie ad. When I owned my Scottish Pub, one of the pieces of marketing research we conducted showed that New Hampshire ranks as one of the top places in the nation for people of Scottish heritage – in fact, Cheshire is one of the top ten counties in the nation…and people of scottish ancestry *strongly* identify with it. Even among those of non-Scot ancestry, there is a very positive reaction to the whole braveheart-kilts-and-bapipes image, and almost no negative reaction at all.

Peut-etre il est tres different a la Cite de la Reine, eh? Especiallment cette Dimanche, la jour ou Les Saintes de La Nouvelle Orleans gagnerent tout!
