Hodes and CSP split on vote congratuating Yankees

November 6, 2009Matt Suermann

As is common whenever a major league team wins a championship, the House and Senate pass resolutions honoring the winning team, and usually this passes with near unanimous support.  Well, what happens when your arch enemies are the ones that you’re congratulating?  What do you do?  Vote with your district and vote no?

That’s exactly the dilemma that Members from Red Sox Nation had today, when the resolution congratulating the hated Yankees.  And I’m assuming that the vast majority of both CSP’s and Hodes’ constituents would support a no vote on the resolution.

For the record here is how they both voted:

Hodes: Present

CSP: Yea

While Hodes could have voted no, his present vote is something that any member of Red Sox Nation can appreciate and is probably one of the only votes that I’ll agree with in entire term in Congress.  CSP however, I can see the Republican ad now touting her support of the Evil Empire in the 2010 cycle.

Too bad they don’t have a “Complete Waste of Time” button to push. I’m sure there were similar resolutions when the Sox, Patriots, and Celtics won their titles. And they were a complete waste of time then as well.

    Grant,
I actually just did a quick check in the House roll calls in 04 and 07 and didn’t see a vote on a Red Sox resolution. Guess they simply held a voice votes?

Actually, I recent conducted some very un-scientific polling in Westmoreland and Chesterfield, and found more more ex-New Yorkers than Taxachusett Exiles.

But I also found more support for the Mets than the Yankees…:-)
