Guinta to Hold 2nd Health Care Town Hall Meeting

November 2, 2009Matt Suermann

Team Guinta announced today that the Manchester Mayor will hold a second town hall meeting for the residents of the 1st Congressional District.

GUINTA TO HOLD 2nd HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL

1st District Congressional Candidate Frank Guinta Will Host a Health Care Discussion In Manchester

Manchester, NH – Last week, Carol Shea-Porter stood with Nancy Pelosi to announce the latest plan for government control of health care. The nearly 2000 page bill is being forced through Congress on a rapid timeline, providing little opportunity for members of the public to read and discuss the measures included in the trillion dollar legislation

Congresswoman Shea-Porter has announced no opportunities for members of the public to voice their opinions on the matter, so Frank Guinta will provide that opportunity at his 2nd Health Care Town Hall. Members of the public and press are invited to attend.

WHAT: Health Care Town Hall hosted by Frank Guinta

WHEN: 11:15am, Saturday, November 7, 2009

WHERE: Aldermanic Chambers
Manchester City Hallu
Manchester, NH

Sign up to attend at www.teamguinta.com starting Tuesday, November 3.

UPDATE:

In response to Frank Guinta announcing his second town hall fellow CD-1 GOP candidate Bob Bestani passed along the following request  that he submitted to the Guinta Campaign:

Thank you Mike, for your invitation to Frank Guinta’s up coming Health Care Town Hall Meeting in Manchester. But let me suggest that instead of having me sit in the audience it would be far more interesting for all concerned if we were to actually have an open discussion of health care. As the two lead candidates for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Congress, I would think that this would be most newsworthy and thus draw a much larger crowd. This would immeasurably add to the educational value of this meeting, which I presume, is the purpose of the gathering. As you may remember, the Exeter Town Hall drew mostly Frank’s established supporters and was thus hardly of any educational value at all.

I have repeatedly suggested that Frank and I actually discuss the issues side by side. Unfortunately, Frank keeps rejecting the offer. Elections are essentially about “comparison shopping” for the electorate. I can only think he is reluctant to debate me, for fear that he would not show well in such a comparison. If he is truly confident of his views and positions, I would imagine that he would be eager to demonstrate this in front of an open audience – especially since his poll numbers are dropping.

(See http://www.wmur.com/download/2009/1005/21207993.pdf)

Please, let’s have a true discussion of the issues instead of the current pantomime we are playing where we go around and lecture the same people over and over again as to why we are the best qualified to help shape the future of our country; it is not for us to say. Let’s take this election and our country’s future seriously; let us show respect for the intelligence of the voters, and finally let us show some respect for the process and the purpose of an election.

I look forward to your reply.

All the Best,

Bob

UPDATE 2:

In response to Bestani calling for a debate, Guinta spokeswoman Alicia Preston passed along the following quote:

“Congress is on the verge of passing another trillion dollar piece of legislation. Only this time the ramifications of failure will not only be felt in our economy but also in our relationship with our doctors. This events purpose is to provide the public an opportunity to voice their questions, their opinions and their concerns over the current health care legislation.”

Will keep you all posted

I very much question the purpose of this town meeting. Open up the debate with Bestani. Shea-Porter is an easy target. You won’t have the opportunity to grandstand anainst Bestani.

Guinta’s spokesman completely dodged the issue that Bestani wants to have an open discussion with the two of them present for the voters to see.

Guinta can host all the events he wants to allow the public to voice our concerns, but he can’t DO anything about our concerns as he isn’t in DC. Ms Porter is in a position to DO something as she IS in DC. Unfortunately, she has proven herself to be merely a puppet on strings for the Democratic party leadership. Her ears are deaf to our concerns

No, Mr. Guinta needs to own up to the fact that candidates are expected to debate one another. The more he avoids doing so, the more it will appear he is afraid of doing so.

Bob needs to quit whining and run his own campaign. Seriously, there will be dozens and dozens of debates, joint forums, county GOP dinners and the like over the next year. I don’t know of a single candidate who has EVER won on “the other guy won’t debate me.” So what? How does that affect voters? You do this once or twice to score some cheap points, but move on to a real issue.

By focusing his energies on this loser of an issue, he comes across desperate and petty. Which is too bad. Bob has plenty of good things to say. He should say them, and stop trying to hijack another candidate’s campaign.

I’m not whining. I’m cool with waiting for a debate.
