Guinta on Carol Shea-Porter’s Town Hall Meeting

As mentioned here on RedHampshire earlier today, Rep. Carol Shea Porter has finally relented to intense pressure from the media and constituents and finally scheduled real face to face town hall meetings.   Today, Manchester Mayor and candidate for Congress, Frank Guinta issued the following statement regarding Rep. Shea-Porter finally scheduling town hall meetings.

FRANK GUINTA COMMENTS ON CAROL SHEA-PORTER’S DECISION TO HOST A TOWN HALL MEETING

Manchester, NH – Following weeks of intense criticism and negative press coverage, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has finally decided to hold a town hall meeting to meet with constituents and address the issue of health care reform. Frank Guinta, who has previously announced he will host a Town Hall meeting on the topic on August 31st, released the following statement today:

“While I am very pleased that Congresswoman Shea-Porter has finally given in to the wishes of the people and will conduct a town hall on health care, I find it very unfortunate it took a media and public backlash in order to do it. Carol Shea-Porter, as we’ve been reminded over the past week, made a name for herself by attending and speaking out at town halls conducted by her predecessor. She refused to offer the same opportunity when she got into office—what a difference a few years in DC made. Our representatives in Washington should make decisions based on what is in the public’s best interest, not simply cave under unexpected and intense scrutiny.

“That being said, I look forward to attending the town hall of my Congresswoman on August 29th and invite her to attend mine, on August 31st. Let’s make sure we give all citizens the opportunity to voice their opinions, express their concerns and most importantly let’s hope our elected leaders listen to us.”

Finally it appears that CSP will have the opportunity to meet one of her potential challengers in a forum that allowed her to win her seat.  The question is how will she be able to handle the pressure of intense media and public pressure.  Let’s hope she doesn’t back out or try and find a way to stifle the questions that will be coming her way.

Now where is Paul Hodes?  I have a feeling his constituents want to know where he is as well.
