In what came as no surprise to anyone, Manchester Mayor-elect Ted Gatsas has resigned his State Senate seat.  This now sets the stage for a special election, and primary to fill his seat.

“My recent election as Mayor of Manchester will requite my full attention and therefore I will be unable to perform my duties,” in the Senate, he said in a letter to Senate President Sylvia Larsen.

Gatsas wrote, “I want to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption. As a result I am taking this step so that a special election can be held to fill this seat in a timely manner, allowing my successor to fulfill the duties of the office.”

The Executive Council will now set a date for the General and Primary election to fill his seat.
