Democrat Cashin Endorses Republican Gatsas For Mayor

Game!  Set!  Match!

Any chance that Democrat Mark Roy had of beating Republican Ted Gatsas for Mayor of Manchester–and Roy was on life support systems based on Tuesday’s primary results–ended with the announcement that long-term Democratic Alderman, Bill Cashin, will endorse Gatsas.

The inconic figure from Ward 10, whose portrait actually hangs in the city’s aldermanic chambers, will shock Deocratic leaders with the announcement which will not only add votes to the Gatsas total but should effectively shut down Roy’s fund raising ability.

Gatsas, meanwhile, has affirmed that he intends to work for like-minded individuals to get them elected to the Scool and Aldermanic boards including former Alderman and current State Rep Leo Pepino (Ward 4) who was seen working out of the Gatsas headquarters earlier today.  In a blatant attempt to buy support, Ward 4 incumbent Alderman Roy (no relation to Mark) had contributed to both the Gatsas and Mark Roy campaigns for mayor.  What better indication could there be that Democrats, in their heart of hearts, know Gatsas is going to be the next mayor.  Only the margin is in doubt.

Roy continues to oppose the popular spending cap which will go before voters this fall.

In a sign of desperation, Roy has proposed a series of 12 90-minute debates, one in each ward.  Kind of like Obama–the more you see him, the less you like him.  Gatsas is likely to resp0nd that the fo;ur scheduled debates are sufficient and that time is better spent getting out and meeting voters.

I’m in the process of checking the percentage of voter turnout by party in each ward to see if Democrats enjoyed their traditonal advantage of about eight percent more Democrats voting than the number of registered Dems in a given ward.  The results are astounding, and I should be able to report them next week.  Preliminary results indicate that while Dems got out their vote in some wards (Ward 6 where Will Infantine will thus benefit by Republicans evening the playing field come November), in other wards Republican turnout actually surpassed that of Dems (vis a vis percentage of registered voters that is).

This is the first indication we have that conservatives and Republicans are motivated to vote this year unlike in past cycles, and it stands out as even more bad news for Roy and the Dems.  More details coming next week–they are truly eye opening.

Bobby Stephen may be staying neutral in the general, but his son John Stephen is expected to endorse Gatsas this week. No surprise there. A majority of the 22 percent Stephen vote in the primary should go to Gatsas, at least 60, maybe as much as 70 percent.
