CHARLIE BASS JOINS NH GOP LEADERS IN CALLING FOR INVESTIGATION INTO HEALTH CARE BILL’S BACK ROOM DEALS
Peterborough, NH- Former New Hampshire Congressman Charlie Bass released the following statement regarding remarks made by State GOP House and Senate leaders at the Legislative Office Building in Concord today.
“I applaud the efforts of State GOP Legislative leaders in both the House and Senate to shine a light on the backroom deals that were made to produce weak legislation that leaves New Hampshire holding part of the nearly 1 trillion dollar bill for other states’ health care costs. The current health care bills being negotiated among Democratic party leaders in Washington, DC are wrong for the citizens of New Hampshire. What began as an opportunity for both parties to work together to fix the broken parts of our health care system and improve access has turned into a completely partisan, wholesale dismantling of the system that will cost taxpayers a trillion dollars and creates winners and losers among the states. Unfortunately, New Hampshire is among the losers in this process as our state’s taxpayers will have to fund the special Medicaid deals their neighbors in Massachusetts and Vermont received. This is not how you reform health care.”

Ayotte Calls for More Transparency in
Health Care NegotiationsManchester, NH – Today, Former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte joined Republican state party leaders in a press conference in Concord to discuss the need for open and transparent health care negotiations. Earlier this week C-SPAN Chairman and CEO Brian Lamb submitted a formal request to congressional leaders requesting they open the closed health care negotiations to the media.
Democrats rushed to end debate and force a vote on their massive health care bill before the holidays, making questionable back-room deals that favored certain states. Paul Hodes and Democrats are now trying to negotiate the final health care bill behind closed doors after promising a transparent process.
“New Hampshire voters deserve openness in the legislative process when passing a bill that will impact their health care and remake one sixth of our national economy,” said former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte. “These backroom deals and negotiations will raise taxes, cut Medicare, increase the debt, and make health care more expensive for New Hampshire families and small businesses. New Hampshire voters should be able to view the negotiations publicly, yet after past promises of a transparent process, Paul Hodes refuses to call for an open process.”
